At Home

After being at home for almost 3 months, I'm continuing my travels today.

On June 30th, I got on a plane from Seoul to Amsterdam, not being sure if and when I'd go back. My mom had been battling cancer for 4 years, repeatedly beating the expectations of the doctors. However, for some time now, her health had been going backwards rapidly.

My mom always tried to not be of any inconvenience to others, and even when I had a skype call with my parents they reassured me that they would call me back if need be, and to just continue traveling and not worry so much. However, it was pretty hard to do so. On June 29th, I decided that I couldn't travel carefree anymore, especially since my next destination would be fairly remote, and that I wanted to be at home. Not even a full minute after voicing my concerns to my dad, I got notified by my grandparents that my mom had just been taken into the intensive care (my dad was still asleep at the moment).

I got into contact with my dad and we booked a return ticket to Amsterdam, with a date that could be changed freely. On the morning of June 30th I flew back to Amsterdam, where I arrived in the evening. My sister picked me up and we headed for the hospital.

After a few days, my mother came home, although still in very bad health. Three weeks later, on the morning of July 19th, she passed away in her sleep.

Today, after 3 months at home, I'm continuing my travels. Cliche as it may be, life goes on. My mother was an adventurous person, and I know she would have wanted me to go back to Asia.
